Theres only one Ronaldo!

Friday, February 24th, 2006

RonaldoCristiano Ronaldo has said he will not be moving away from United in the summer and has vowed to repay Manchester United for having faith in him and supporting him. He has been linked with several teams recently including Juventus.

“United have stood by me and been there for me and I want to repay that,” Ronaldo told the Manchester Evening News.

“They were also the only club that showed 100 percent commitment towards me. They brought me to England and tried to make me a better player and they have worked hard. ”

“There is nobody else who could make me what I am now and I am really thankful. I will repay the faith.”

The Carling Cup Final on Sunday will be the first major match he has played in without his Dad watching.

“Obviously it has been really hard to take since my father died,” added Ronaldo.

“Psychologically it was very tough and you are bound to take it onto the pitch whether you like it or not.

“I know he won’t be there on Sunday and that will be tough to take. But he will be with me in my heart. I will think about him and I would like to win it for him.”

As well as having to deal with the tragic death of his Dad he had to deal with being falsely accused of raping someone.

Wembley drops FA Cup … thats a shock!! :)

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

WembleyWembley will not host the FA Cup this year because it has fallen behind schedule. No surprise there! They cannot guarantee that it will be finished on time so it will now be held in Millennium Stadium in Cardiff which has hosted the FA Cup final for the last few seasons. There are a few concerts due in the summer in Wembley and apparently these will still be in Wembley. Concerts include Robbie Williams, Take That and Rolling Stones.

Apparently quite a few of the builders of the stadium took bets out that it would not be finished on time. Someone bet about £800 I think and is set to win about £1100 or something like that!! There was an article in the newspaper the other day which showed one builder having a sleep and another what appeared to be smoking pot.

The cost of the stadium is going to be more than £750m – I would not be surprised if this increases. It seems amazing how much things seem to cost here in the UK (how much was the Millennium Dome??). The cost of the Stade de France, although years ago, was £260m. The Olympic stadium in Sydney also cost £260m. Amazingly the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff cost only £126m.

I saw a funny Wembley picture today – view it here.

Pot Kettle Black

Thursday, February 23rd, 2006

EtoChelsea lost 2-1 last night to Barcelona. Didn’t manage to see the match but seen the goals and the sending off. Asier del Horno was sent off after about 35 minutes for a challenge on Messi. It was possibly slightly harsh but it was a clumsy challenge. He was also play-acting after the challenge to pretend he was injured himself. As he rolled around on the floor he still had time to look up at the ref to see if he got the freekick! Messi properly made the most of it though. Del Horno apparently got away with an above the knee tackle just before he got sent off and should have got a yellow card then so in a way hasnt got a lot to complain about.

2 of the goals were own goals – one from Motta and one from Terry (LOL). Eto scored a good goal with about 10 minutes to go. Chelseas tactics of watering the already muddy pitch didnt work. Hehe!

Jose has been moaning about Messi play acting. He cant talk – hes got one of the worst play-acting diving players in Robben. In fact Robben has been moaning about players falling over too easily.

Get Well soon Alan Smith!

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Alan SmithUnited played Liverpool at Anfield last weekend in the FA Cup. We played really bad and I was very disappointed but I was more concerned with the injury to Alan Smith. He went to block a freekick and in doing so dislocated his ankle and broke his leg. It took them 7 minutes to get him on the stretcher and take him off the pitch. As he went off the pitch he was given oxygen for the pain. He was clapped by all the United fans and most of the Liverpool fans – there were some Liverpool fans who booed and also sang some sick songs which was a real shame and really low. There are also reports that some Liverpool fans attacked the ambulance with Alan in it. They were also chanting “Munich scum” in reference to the plane crash that killed 23 people, including eight Manchester United players in 1958. Alan had been given general anaesthetic in the stadium so wasnt aware of what was happening. There were also reports that some Liverpool fans threw papers cups with poo in it towards the United fans. Disgusting! I know its only a handful of ‘fans’ but it does unfortunately ruin the reputation of proper Liverpool fans.

It also emerged yesterday that several United supporters have written to Liverpool to complain that home supporters in the Anfield Road end had thrown paper cups containing excrement into the away section below them. “I consider this to be the most disgusting thing that I’ve seen in over 40 years of attending professional football matches,” says one of the letters addressed to Ged Poynton, Anfield’s stadium manager.

He is out for this season and will miss the World Cup. It looks like he could be out for about 9 months. Smith allows gives his all and is a tough character, metally and physically. When he got injured you could tell something was really wrong because it took him ages before he was even put onto the stretcher. You could almost tell from the players reaction that something was not right. It was not just the United players showing concern but the Liverpool players including Gerrard and Riise. You can see the look on the face of players such as Ronaldo and Giggs how worried they were. There was a worry that it was a career-ending injury but it doesnt seem quite as bad as it first seemed.

Smith had an operation on Sunday and it apparently went really well so that is good news. He talked to the Sun newspaper and said about the injury “When I looked, the leg was lying one way and my ankle was pointing towards Hong Kong so I knew I was in serious trouble.” “But the doctors are very positive, I’ve had an operation and now it’s a question of starting on the road back.”

Some nicer football news and it seems Heinze, who was thought to be out injured all season could be back next month and also play in the World Cup.
