Ridiculous

Monday, April 10th, 2006

The SandwichSelfridges in London is selling a sandwich for £85! Its key ingredient is Wagyu beef which costs £55 per kilo. Wagyu cattle are one of the most expensive breeds in the world. The Japanese cows are fed food including beer and special grain.

The Selfridges food director said “If you are a food lover, this represents great value for money”. Yeah right!!

£20 for a movie!!

Monday, April 10th, 2006

You can now download the movie King Kong for £20. Considering you can get the DVD for £15 online from play.com and properly about £18 from the high street this is just stupid. The time it takes to download the movie (would take about 2 hours unless you have really fast broadband) you could have gone to the shops and got the actual DVD.

If they made it cheaper and/or made the movies available before the DVD is actually released then it may be sucessful. Downloading TV episodes is already successful in the US and this is because its cheaper – the main success being iTunes. Unfortunately you cant really do this in the UK yet – however it could be different this time next year. For example the BBC is allowing you to watch select TV episodes for 7 days for free (I think its only for some specially invited people).

Same old Arsenal, always cheating!!

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

RooneyUnited beat Arsenal 2-0 today in a great match. United are playing so well at the moment especially Rooney. Rooney scored one and set up the 2nd for Park (Park’s first goal for United in the league). I think one of the reasons we are playing so well recently is the performance of our midfield. Giggs is doing really well in the middle alongside OShea. Ronaldo has hit some great form and won the PFA player of the month award. Park has always done well – he just seems to run all the time! Thats now 9 wins in 9 games.

We should of had a penalty at the end of the half when Toure ‘saved’ the ball. He dove to block the shot and it clearly hit his arm. It was almost a John Terry style ‘block’. A goalkeeper would have been pleased with it! Same old Arsenal, always cheating! Silvestre got a yellow card for a challenge when he didnt touch the player. Sendoros was also lucky not to get a yellow card when he just blocked Rooneys run, with no intention at all on getting the ball. After the match Van der Saar said it was a good save from Toure but he should have kept hold of it! :)

Chelsea beat West Ham 4-1. They actually went 1-0 behind and down to 10 men. Unfortunately they then started to play really well and totally out-played West Ham. After a few weeks of poor form Chelsea may have started to play well again – unfortunately.

Chelsea need to win 3 of the last 5 games to win the league. Looking at the remaining fixtures there are possible matches for them to slip up on. For example there next game is against Bolton which should hopefully be a tough game.

REMAINING GAMES

CHELSEA
Bolton (a)
Everton (h)
Man Utd (h)
Blackburn (a)
Newcastle (a)

MAN UTD
Sunderland (h)
Tottenham (a)
Middlesbrough (h)
Chelsea (a)
Charlton (h)

Birthday

Sunday, April 9th, 2006

OpusWent out on Saturday night for a friends birthday. We went to the Thai restaurant Ikan on Portland Street. The food was nice but the portion sizes were pretty small. There was about 14 of us and it cost £30 a head for 2 portions (also included the cost of a small cake for the birthday girl).

We then went to the new club Opus in The Printworks. It opened about 2 weeks ago. The music was good and more to my tastes than MTwo (which is more RnB) but it was too busy and really crowded. You couldnt really dance and just ended up being pushed about abit when ppl tried to walk past.

We left around 130am and then got some pizza – not had pizza for ages!!

I took some photos and a few other people did. I will put them online at some point and it will be on the My Photos page. (The web site Tilllate UK were they taking photos for there web site).

Grand National

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

Grand NationalWowhoo, I won!!!

I picked 2 horses – Numbersixvalvade and Jack High. Jack High fell before the end but Numbersixvalvade won :) I bet £5 each-way and won £72.50. I spent £15 in total so a profit of £57.50. I could of got abit more money because the odds I got was 10-1 but it actually went to 11-1 by the time the race started.

There was a false start but no problems like in 1993. The only grey horse in the race was caught on the rope abit. The second time they got going fine.

I put bets on for my parents. My Dad picked Lord of Illusion who fell before the end. My Mum picked the winner and the runner up so won £34 in total.

Only 9 horses finished and unfortunately one horse had to be put down and one jockey had to go to hospital with a suspected broken collarbone.

Final result

1615 John Smith’s Grand National Chase (4m 4f)
1. Numbersixvalverde (N P Madden) 11-1
2. Hedgehunter (R Walsh) 5-1 Jt Fav
3. Clan Royal (A P McCoy) 5-1 Jt Fav
4. Nil Desperandum (T P Treacy) 33-1

Although I dont know anything about horse racing I tend to do well picking the winners. I have picked the winner 3 or 4 times (I picked the winner for the abandoned race in 1993 and would have won over £100 I think). I usually pick on of the favourites (but not usually ‘the favourite’ and also bet on one of the outsiders so if it does win I win loads). (This year the 2 horses I picked were amongst the favourites). I just read a couple opinions of some ‘experts’ and just pick pretty much at random.
