Chelsea beat United on Saturday. From what I have heard we were really poor. More importantly is the injury to Rooney. He broke his foot – its that bloody metatarsal bone. So many players have broken their metatarsal bone recently – the first one being Beckham before the 2002 World Cup. Apart from being bad news for England, its sad news for Rooney himself personally. There seems to be possible disagreements brewing up between The FA and Sir Alex Ferguson. Fergie says its unlikely that Rooney will be fit for the World Cup and that Sven saying he is going to World Cup even if injured is not the right thing to say. I have to agree with that. If Rooney is not fit and there is no chance of him playing, then no matter how fantastic player he is, he cant do anything from the stands!
It is starting to get worrying the amount of injuries we have. There is plenty to be pessimistic about. Rooney of course is out (ppl saying 6 weeks so would miss start of tournament but may be back for matches after group stage), Owen had a slight set back after playing his first match back from injury at weekend, Ashley Cole is still not fully fit, Campbell is injured, John Terry is out for a month, Ledley King may miss out, …. Unfortunately Sven has to name the squad very soon.
Lets hope we get no more injuries. Looking on the bright side though we still have some very good players and Sven has plenty of time to think of new tactics on how to play without Rooney (and potential other players). He may play 5 in midfield with Carrick playing defensive and let Gerrard and Lampard go more forward. Another option is Cole could play in the ‘hole’ just behind the striker. One other good news is the fantastic form of Aaron Lennon for Spurs. He is a good chance of maybe going to Germany. (I think Downing has down well too so he is an option).
On the subject of the England football team – the appointment of the new England manager is turning into a complete fiasco. Scorlari now says he doesnt want it. McLaren has also said that he has had an affair (I think with his secretary). Apparently he is now the favourite (again). ‘Apparently’ they will announce the manager this week. If they announce McLaren as the manager then its going to be a bit odd with McLaren being Sven’s assistant coach.
UPDATE: Latest news on Rooney from Sir Alex is that Rooney will not make the world cup
United played Boro tonight and drew 0-0. This means we are 1 point ahead of Liverpool in 2nd place with one more game to go. We play Charlton (at home) and they play Portsmouth (away). We have a better goal difference so a draw may do but a win will certainly do!
