Well done Moyles (and Scott, Zane and all at Radio 1)

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

MoylesIt was a good night for Radio 1 on Monday when they won UK Station of the year at the Sony awards – its like the Oscars for radio. Zane Lowe won a couple gold awards, Scott Mills got a well deserved gold and Chris Moyles got a very well deserved gold :) It was the first Sony award Moyles had won in 16 years of radio broadcasting.

There is a video of his acceptance speechWARNING – it includes swearing!

Chris Moyles is also going to be in Celebrity X-Factor. Its on just before the World Cup starting at the end of May. Good luck!! He says he does not want to win because it would be embarassing. He doesnt want to end up 2nd or 3rd but 4th. I think he will win – hes a pretty good singer and is v. popular.

Svens gone abit mad!

Monday, May 8th, 2006

Walcott and LennonThe provisional England squad by Sven and its abit mental! Sven does it again!!! We are so going to lose! The major shock is the inclusion of Theo Walcott. Sven has even said he has not seen him play a match and only in training a few times.

Provisional squad:
Robinson (Tottenham), James (Manchester City), Green (Norwich); G Neville (Manchester United), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Terry (Chelsea), Cole (Arsenal), Campbell (Arsenal), Carragher (Liverpool), Bridge (Chelsea), Beckham (Real Madrid), Carrick (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Jenas (Tottenham), Downing (Middlesbrough), J Cole (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Rooney (Manchester United), Owen (Newcastle), Crouch (Liverpool), Walcott (Arsenal).

Standby:
Carson (Liverpool), Young (Charlton), Reo-Coker (West Ham), Defoe (Tottenham), Johnson (Crystal Palace).

He says he can pick 23 players so why not have 1 gamble. This is not the time to gamble. Why pick just 4 forwards. 2 of them may not be fit for the World Cup, one has not even played a premiership match and then we have Crouch. He says J.Cole is a striker so we have 5 players. When was the last time J.Cole played as a striker!! He could do a decent job upfront I think but what about having a proper 5th striker like Defoe (he is on the standby list) or Bent. If he has picked Rooney, who is unlikely to make the early stages and may miss it all. Why doesnt he pick Ledley King who is likely to be fit in a couple weeks?!!?

He has picked Hargreves and Jenas again! FFS! I would have picked Parker (although he is injured) or Nolan instead of Hargreves – far better players. However Sven just seems to like Hargreaves – hes the only one who does! One thing about Hargreves is he can play in a few different positions – however its better to play one position very well (Parker/Nolan) than a few positions crap! I would also been tempted to take Brown instead of Campbell. Brown has been in great form (unlike Campbell) this season (although lost his place in team recently) but he can play in middle of defence and also as right back (which we dont have much cover for if Neville gets injured).

Kindoff a surprise is the omission of SWP. He has not been in the 1st team for Chelsea much at all but he is an exciting player. I guess his position has been taken by Lennon who has loads of pace and has been playing regularly. It is good to see Lennon and Downing in the squad. Finally Sven is picking players who are in-form.

With England being one of the favourites for the World Cup and apparently having the best group of players in years, how come Sven has to ‘gamble’ with a completely inexperience player. I think my main worries is that he has picked just 4 strikers and picked Jenas and Hargreves. I think picking Walcott is a brave one but he could do brilliantly but taking a 5th striker would have been better (Defoe and/or Bent – the top English Premiership scorer).

Football365 have made some good points – http://www.football365.co.uk/features/f365_features/story_184891.shtml. One good point is that the previous friendlies have been pretty pointless. All the players he has tried out, he is now trying some uncapped players. Whats the point Sven!!! I hope Sven proofs me wrong. If all players are fit, the first 11 will be just the normal selection with no ‘controversial’ picks. Its just down to what formation Sven plays and whether he plays a holding midfielder (which he may do with only 4 forwards).

The inclusion of such an inexperienced players does give us all hope – I have not played in the premiership so maybe I could play for England!!

End of season

Monday, May 8th, 2006

United playersThe premier league season is now over. Thankfully there is plenty of football on over the summer. There is the UEFA Cup final on Wednesday and then the FA Cup final on Saturday. Then next week is the Champions League final which should be good. Of course we then have the World Cup starting in June.

The last day of the season was pretty exciting and a few things still had to be settled. 2nd place, 4th place (Champions League qualifier) and 7th (Intertoto) place.

The United match was good – we totally outplayed Charlton and could have won by more then 4-0. It was great to see Scholes back who played in the second half. Ole also came on in the 2nd half – would have been great if he could have scored.

At the end of the match all the players went round to applaud the crown including Rooney. He seemed relaxed and was smiling so maybe he wil be fit for the world cup?? He was walking around without crutches.

However, it looks like Ruud will be leaving United – he arrived at Old Trafford and then left when he found out he was not in the team (and maybe squad). Sir Alex said that basically not happy with him this week and he was affecting the spirit of team etc

Several players have left because of basically not getting on with Fergie. These include Ince, Kanchelskis, Jaap Stam, Bosnich, Yorke, Becks and Keane.

Arsenal get 4th place so we certainly be in Champions League next season. Spurs missed out – lost 2-1 v West Ham. The game was almost cancelled because several Spurs players had food poisoning. I would have preferred Spurs getting 4th and possibly being in Europe but oh well.

Worryingly for England is that Owen may not be fit. He did not play Newcastles last game (against Chelsea). Maybe they dont need him after beating Chelsea LOL. In the 15 games Roeder has been in charge he has played Owen about 25 minutes but from those games has got about 30 points. Pretty good going.

It was a bad weekend for wigan player Andreas Johansson who will almost certainly be some question on Question of Sport some day. He was sent off seconds after he came on. He did touch the ball at all.

Please Sven No!!!!

Sunday, May 7th, 2006

According to The Mirror today, Emile Heskey will be in Svens England squad list if Rooney does not make it. Heskey has only scored 5 times this season – a season where Birmingham have been relegated. Heskey has never been that particularly popular with England fans but Sven seems to like him for some reason. If Rooney doesnt make it they think Sven will pick the forwards Sven will pick will be: Michael Owen, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Darren Bent and Heskey. I think Harewood is a better option if he wants that type of striker. The big difference is that Harewood scores goals (and doesnt fall over all the time)!

Also worryingly Owen Hargreaves could be named in the England squad too. I dont know what it is but Sven always seems to take Hargreaves. When we need to bring on a good attacking player, Sven brings on the defensive Hargreves. If he was good then I might let him off but hes crap!

I really hope this is the normal rubbish newspaper news!

Other players apparently on standby are Downing, Phil Neville and West Brown. I think all of these players should be in the squad. Downing has been in great for, Phil Neville has done well too and can play in both defence and midfield (unlike Luke Young), and Wes Brown has done well this season (although recently lost his place to Vidic) but he is better than Campbell.

BBC Reboot

Friday, May 5th, 2006

Reboot:bbc.co.ukThe BBC are running a sort of competition to re-do the BBC home page. Its called reboot:bbc.co.uk. The idea is NOT to redesign bbc.co.uk and to “take it all the way back to the drawing board”. I have come up with my design – just had a quick go at it and it took me under an hour. It says on the site that all valid designs will be featured on the reboot site so my design should be there :) It would be cool to be featured on the bbc web site. There are some nice prizes if I win too :) Fingers crossed! The winner gets an top end Apple laptop, gets to visit the BBC and has the design implemented and will be on bbc.co.uk later on in the summer. Runners up will get iPods.

The winning design will be picked my a panel of judges which will be chaired by Ashley Highfield, who is the BBC’s Director of New Media and Technology.

You can view my design here.

UPDATE: My design is now online on the BBC Reboot web site – http://open.bbc.co.uk/reboot/gallery/2006/05/rebootbbc.html – I have got a few comments. Some comments on my typing error (opps) but also someone actually liking it :)
