Football rumours

RonaldoThere was some interesting headlines in the newspapers today.

* Spurs have signed Zokora from St Etienne which could mean Carrick is on his way to United.

* Atletico Madrid have put a £41.4m price tag on Fernando Torres – AC Milan, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle all apparently want him

* Ronaldinho plays as Manchester United in computer football game competitions against his Brazil teammates

* Sven is talking to publishers about a biography deal where he will tell-all. Deal could be worth £2m. Sven manages to get even more money for doing nothing much really. I wish I could get a fraction of that just for telling my story.

Also United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz is going to be seeing Cristiano Ronaldo after the match on Saturday to try and persuade him to stay at United. I really hope he does – he has the potential to be the best player in the world. Like I said a couple days ago, United fans seem to love or hate him. There was a poll, I think on United’s official site, on whether you would be happy if he left. About 56% would be happy (or rather wouldnt mind) if he left. However Sir Alex has said he is not worried about the rumours.

Back to the actual football and its not long to the big match. Ronaldo appears to be winning his battle to play. Good news for Portugal, not for England.

Cheat!

RiberyFrance beat Spain the other night 3-1. There was a great goal fron Zidane. I wanted Spain to win but I am glad we will get to see France v Brazil.

In the match the freekick leading to the 2nd French goal Henry cheated. He was blocked off the ball and it wasnt even really a freekick. He was kindoff emailed in the chest but went down grabbing his face as if he had been elbowed in the face. He was trying to get Puyol sent off. I always thought Henry was a decent guy but hes just like most footballers!

After the match he said Puyol should not have blocked him since the Spain left back would have got the ball before him. He didnt say anything going down grabbing his face. Some fans of Henry have claimed he was holding his face in disappointment at not getting to the ball and having a good chance to score. Rubbish!!

Just 6 weeks ago Henry complained after the Champions League final that he would not resort to diving etc like Barcelona players. He questioned maybe he should in the future. Looks like his has!

In other World Cup news, there was more evidence that Sven has no idea at all with tactics. He was going to play Beckham at right back so that he could play Lennon. Beckham himself said no to it. Sven then opted to play Hargreaves at right back and play Carrick in the holding position. This is Carrick who he seemed to have forgotten about. Played really well in the US tour and a match ages ago – then for some reason seemed to play Hargreaves and Carragher ahead of him. Then suddenly he is in. Personally I am glad as I think Carrick is an excellent player.

Sven just cant seem to drop Beckham and just has to play him somewhere. I am a massive Beckham fan but he just hasnt done it for England apart from a couple passes and a freekick.

Torres and world cup photos & babes

TorresThe BBC world cup blog has reported that United are close to sealing a deal with Torres. I hope this is true. He has been fantastic for Spain. It would be great next season with Rooney, Ronaldo and Torres (although there is news today that Ronaldo apparently wants to go to Real Madrid). United fans seem to love or hate him. I think hes great – he is frustrating sometimes but he getting better (not doing to many tricks). It would be a real shame if he left and I would actually be a bit disppointed in him after we stood by him and made him a better player.

Anyway, back to Torres. Apparently representatives are in Manchester looking for a house for him. Hopefully we will get Carrick too.

There have been some great photos taken from this years world cup – I have found some great flickr blogs.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Just watched a really boring match. It actually missed most of the extra time as I was watching some of The Abyss. I was pretty sure it was going to go to penalties. It was between Switzerland and Ukraine. It ended 0-0 after extra time. Ukraine won the penalty shootout 3-0. The penalties themselves was bad as well!! (In particular Switzerland’s). Switzerland missed all their penalties! I thought the match was going to go on another 30 minutes.

The Switzerland manager really looked confused and clueless. Didnt seem like he knew what to do. For some reason he took off their main striker and the one who takes the set pieces Frei. Really strange decision. They now play Italy in the quarter finals and Italy must be really happy. They should easily beat Ukraine who were very poor.

England v Ecuador

Beckham and Ashley ColeEngland beat Ecuador today 1-0 with a Beckham freekick. Great performance by Carrick. Carrick really did make the difference to England performance. With the temperature being around 35C it was really important to keep possession of the ball which we are usual poor at. His passing was excellent. Carrick only lost the ball once in the whole match. Also excellent from Rooney and Ashley Cole (he made a fantastic block which stopped them scoring). Joe Cole not as good as last few game and was subbed before the end. Beckham didnt do much apart from the goal – which was excellent. He hasnt been that good this tournament but he may have an excuse today because he said he wasnt well. He actually threw up after he scored the goal. They didnt show it on BBC (during the match you could see he wasnt feeling right), but on ITV they showed it. Ewww! LOL

Lampard was crap and should have been subbed. He had some great chances to score and just messed it up. Some other negatives for England is that Robinson once again had a poor game. The central defence made a few errors and are not performing to their potential.

Hargreves again had another good match. Gerrard didnt have a great game really. Lennon came on for Beckham at the end and did really well with his pace. Did well to waste abit of time. Carragher came up as well and did a good job to help defend the lead.

The ref wasnt the best in the world and made some poor decisions – he was fooled by the Ecuador play acting.

When England get ahead there is the tendancy to just hold on for the lead and really end up hanging on. We didnt do this as much as normal thankfully.

I was a little worried before the match with all the changes. Surely we should try out these things in the friendly matches. However its pretty much worked for Sven. In this world cup Sven seems to have changed in some way. He seems abit more ‘angry’ and aggressive. Its good to see. I think hes thinking its his last tournament so ’sod it, just go for it’!

We are gradually getting better and are in the quarter finals. We will play the winner from the match tonight between Portugal and Holland. I won tempt fate to say who we could be playing after that.

It will interesting to see what team Sven puts on next Saturday. He surely drop Carrick now. I think the side which started should start next week. Rooney just seemed to get better and better as the match went on.

In other world cup stuff the match between Mexico and Argentina had an amazing goal. Argentina were not that good and Mexico really went for them. It was 1-1 at the end of normal time. Rodriguez scored an amazing goal. He was about 25 yards out and controlled it on his chest and then volleyed it into the top corner. That was the winning goal.

In this world cup we have had some fantastic matches and fantastic goals – right from Lahm’s goal in the very first match. One bad thing about the world cup is the number of yellow cards. There have been loads. Many have been for stupid things like a little bit of time wasting.

COME ON ENGLAND!!!

UPDATE:

I have just watched the Portugal v Holland game. The game was ruined by the ref. 16 yellow cards and 4 red cards. Most of the yellow cards were not right – they were mostly just perfectly fine tackles. The game ended 1-0 to Portugal (who will now play England).

Deco was really unlucky to get sent off – he got his 2nd yellow goal for abit of time wasting. Actually he was pushed over in the incident. The ref should really use some common sense – he could have just added some extra time on, now he has potentially ruined a players world cup. Figo was lucky to stay on after headbutting a player – the ref didnt see it (behind his back) but he gave him a yellow card (linesman must have told him). If the ref didnt give a yellow card, FIFA could have looked at the incident afterwards and may have even banned him for a good (which would have been good for England). Bronckhorst (Holland) was also unlucky to get sent off (his second yellow card was just a normal tackle). After they were sent off Bronckhorst and Deco (who are Barcelona team-mates) could be sent on the side talking – properly about how stupid the ref was. (The players were not exactly great themselves and didnt help with their playacting – in particular the dutch players).

There was a fair amount of diving as you would expect – it really is something that needs to be kicked out of the game. Van Persie as usual cheated as did Robben.

Ronaldo was subbed early on after getting injured – it was a very poor challenge by the Holland player. It looked like a dead leg. This injury usually takes a week to heal so it will be interesting to see if he plays against England. After coming off Ronaldo was crying – I feel sorry for him. However he will have many World Cups ahead of him. What this game will be remembered for was a pathetic referee performance – he just totally lost control of the game. However this is good for England with Deco and Costinha not able to play.

England v Sweden

Joe ColeEngland played Sweden today and drew 2-2. We played well in the first half but we were really poor in the second half – our defending was shocking. Every single corner looked like Sweden would score. We really must sort this out before we play Ecuador. On Match of the Day they analysed the set pieces (pundits were Alan Hansen, Alan Shearer and Lee Dixon) and from corners the main problem was the near post. Its the most important position when at a corner and its important for the defender to get infront of the opposition. Beckham was at the near post for most of the corners and let the forward get infront of him. Why is he at the near post when hes not the best header of the ball. Sven needs to sort this out. What worries me is that this may have been Steve McLaren’s fault and hes Englands next manager!

Owen looks like he may be out for the whole tournament – within the first minute he twisted his knee. On replays it looks like something may have popped out. He didnt seem in too much pain and the official word is that he has twisted his knee. He will be having a scan tomorrow so fingers crossed. It will be real bad luck for Owen if he is out. Crouch came on for Owen.

Hargreaves started the game and I have to be honest he played well – I am glad for him since he has had a lot of critisism from many people (including me). He was properly our second best player after Joe Cole. Joe Cole played really well and scored a brilliant goal – possibly the best of the tournament. When the ball came to him I thought he may have volleyed it. He did – it could have gone into Row Z but thankfully it went right into the top corner over the keeper.

Sven was forced into 2 substitutions because of injuries and the only one out of choice was Gerrard for Rooney. Rooney was clearly not pleased to be subbed – he was properly more angry about not being fit enough to last 90 minutes and play well. He sat down and threw his boots away. Before he sat down he kicked the ice bucket (with his left foot). Careful Wayne!! Dont injure the other foot!!

Personally I would have like Sven to bring on Lennon or maybe even Walcott. It looks like Walcott will not play at all in this world cup. I suppose Sven did the right thing with Gerrard making a goal line clearance and scored our 2nd goal.

Also the injuries are slowly mounting up – Neville is out, Rio had to be subbed and was limping and of course Owen. When he was injured he was just turning and with no other player near him. I just watched Match of the day and Alan Shearer said he received a text from Owen and he said he was in a lot of pain.

Watching England is soooo frustrating. Lampard in particular was frustrating as usual opting to shoot from 60 miles out instead of passing. We now have only 1 100% fit tried and experienced striker. Why didnt you take Defore Sven!!!!

We now play Ecuador and not Germany who played really well today. However Ecuador will not be easy and they are particularly good at long throws – which is a problem for us! Also they may just play 10 men behind the ball and frustrate us like Paraguay and Trinidad & Tobago. (Maybe playing Germany would bring the best out of the players and be forced to play well – oh well too late now).

One interesting thing in the post match interview with Rooney – he was questionned about him being angry at being subbed. He said something along the lines that he didnt think he should be sitting back and should be more attacking.

Other football related stuff – I just have to say that the Budweiser adverts they have on ITV at the start and end of breaks are really good – some are very funny. The idea of them is basically how Americans don’t understand football and has 2 sports presenters making daft comments etc. Apart from that the ITV coverage of the World Cup is rubbish compared to BBC. Steve Rider just doesnt give the impression that he knows much about. The BBC is not without its faults though with Mark Lawrenson and Mick McCarthey as co-commenters. They are terrible – Lawro with his poor poor jokes and Mick with his complete nonsense – how can you listen, believe such a crap manager. However the BBC is no adverts and also his the best pundit – Alan Hansen.

Fast and The Furious

I went to see this movie over the weekend. I was not expecting the greatest film in the world and expected some poor acting. There was poor acting but I really enjoyed it. The cars in the movie were really nice and some of the car racing scenes were excellent.

It was also quite funny in parts – check out the old men fishing scene. LOL

The Mustang looked awesome, I really liked the Nissan 350Z and the Evo was pretty nice aswell. As well as having beautiful cars there were some beautiful women in the movie! Personally I didnt think the lead lady was ‘all that’ but many of the other Japanese cars especially the ones in the blue car (maybe a Skyline???).

It was great to have the movie set in Japan where street racing started. It was also I think where drifting started. It was when going up and down the mountains called Touge. It just shows that in Japan they have lots of dispossible money. I watched an episode of Fifth Gear awhile ago and people in Japan spend lots of money on their cars because they dont buy property – because of all the earthquakes.

One think which annoyed me a little bit was that the main character was really into cars and street racing etc but he hadnt heard of drifting before!! Also he was supposed to be playing a character about 16-17 years old but he looked more like 30! I checked on IMDB and he is something like 24.

NB – DONT go to the official fast and the furious web site. it loads up with a teaser trailer on the home page and it ruins the surprise ending
