Midweek game action

RonaldoLast night was pretty much a full Premier League fixture list. One of the big games was the London derby between Arsenal v Spurs. The game ended 4-4!!! The first goal of the game was by Spurs and was a great goal by Bentley. He scored from about 40 yards out. He controlled the ball and volleyed it over Almunia (ala Beckham). Check out the video at the bottom of this post.

At one point, Arsenal were 4-2 with just 2 minutes of extra time to go. However after a mistake by Arsenal who were trying to pass there were out of defence instead of just kicking it clear, Jenas scored and then in injury time Lennon scored after Modric hit the post. I am happy for Harry Redknapp that hes got the draw against Arsenal. He will need to sort out the defence though especially the keeper who looks like a liability.

The other main game (as far as I was concerned!) was the United v West Ham game. United ended up winning 2-0 but it should have been a lot more. The first half they played brilliantly cutting apart West Ham. They could have scored 4 or 5 (or maybe more). Ronaldo got the 2 goals (he actually celebrated the 1st one), the 2nd was after some great play by Berbatov.  Check out the video at the bottom of this post.

In the 2nd half, like in the Everton game, United took the foot of the gas and didnt punish West Ham. It was a chance to get a few more goals and improve goal difference which could be all important at the end of the season. Apparently Fergie wasnt pleased either with United easing off in the 2nd half.

Hasnt the PM got more important things to do???

I am sure you have all heard and read about the Jonathan Ross/Russell Brand prank call by now. Basically they called up and left several answerphone messages on the phone of Andrew Sachs (used to be in Fawlty Towers), who was supposed to be on his (Russell Brand) radio show. The messages were quite rude and it turns out have upset Andrew Sachs.

The whole situation though has really avalanced since the media got hold of it. Originally there was just 2 complaints during the show but its now something like 25,000.

You can hear the part of the Russell Brand show which causes all this controversy on Youtube now.

PM Gordon Brown has got in on the act and said it was “clearly inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour“. Surely he should be worrying and dealing with the state of the nations economy etc rather than a couple tv personalities acting foolishly and leaving a message on someones answerphone.

The day after the interview was played out (it was pre-recorded) Jonathan Ross was suspended. His friday night show, at the moment, wont me on. Russell Brand was suspended but has since quit. If the BBC sack Jonathan Ross they will be saving a lot of money. He was on a massive £18 million three year deal. He was “OK” but in his interviews he did end up talking about himself a lot and certainly wasnt worth £6m a year!

No more Hewlett Packard for me!

Actually I havent bought a HP product for a long long time but after a massive blunder they have helped Gary Glitter get a £100,000 hand out. They have used the song Do You Want To Touch Me on one of there adverts to promote a new touch screen model. The song they used was a version by Joan Jett but the song was originally written by Gary Glitter. The advert is only being shown in the US.

He could also end up with more than the £100,000 from possible Internet downloads.

Thats just great!!! Dear me! :-|

Vouchers, competitions,…..

Over the last couple of weeks or so I have been getting into entering competitions again. A while ago I entered competitions online with limited success (the only thing I can remember winning is a Family Guy DVD). I thought I would start up again – I mainly use the site Prizefinder. Hopefully I have more luck now!

Aswell as competitions, I have started to keep an eye on voucher/coupon web sites. There are many about which help you pick up a bargain and make a nice saving. These include HotUKDeals and also My Voucher Codes. The latest one I have found which looks really good is called CouponDeal.

Bookmark ManagerI have built a couple web sites to demonstrate some bookmarking functionality. The first is a bookmark manager site – the idea is you log in with a username and password and then you can add your own web addresses which are then available to be viewed in another Internet enabled computer.

Article BookmarkingArticle Bookmarking

The second site I have built is an article bookmarking site. Its a demo web site with some articles – the idea with this site is that if the site had loads of articles, the visitor could log in and “bookmark” certain articles which they refer to at a later date.

Both of these web sites are properly not very useful on there own but would be useful as “add-ons” to some web sites (in particular the article bookmarking site).

The Ronaldo saga …

RonaldoOver the summer the Ronaldo saga went on and on. Would he stay at United, go to Real Madrid. It went on and on and everyone was sick/bored of the whole thing.

In the end Ronaldo stayed and was staying for what would properly be till the end of the season. A few days ago, Real Madrid president said that their pursuit of Ronaldo was “completely over”.

In the news today Ronaldo has said he made the right decision rejecting the move to Real and expected to stay beyond the end of the season.

“Now I understand I made the best decision,” Ronaldo told Spanish sports paper Marca. “I am with Manchester in body and soul”.

“I want to respect the club, my colleagues and the fans and don’t want to talk about other teams at present.”

Lets see if he is saying the the same thing at the end of the season!!!

Liverpool – title contenders??

AlonsoThe big game of the weekend was Chelsea v Liverpool. The best result would have been a draw (as a United fan). This was even more important after United drew 1-1 against Everton. In the end Liverpool won 1-0 and ended Chelsea’s unbeaten home record of 86 games. I suppose I rather Liverpool win, out of the two since I basically dislike Chelsea more – the main reasons are Terry, Ashley Cole and Mikel. Liverpool played really well and have had their best start of a season for a long long time. The only goal in the game came from a deflected shot from Alonso. Chelsea had a few chances, the best chance was for Ashley Cole – which he funnily sliced wide :)

In the United v Everton game I mentioned above – I have seen the highlights but from what I have read and the little I have seen – United played well in the 1st half but Everton well much better in the 2nd. Rooney was subbed in the 2nd half after getting a bit hot under the collar and Fergie said afterwards it was just incase he got himself sent off.

Its still early on in the season but United are now 8 points behind Liverpool (5 behind Chelsea) with a game in hand. Next game for United is West Ham midweek and then the in-form Hull next weekend.

The other game worth mentioning is the Spurs v Bolton game which was the first game in charge for Harry Redknapp who moved from Portsmouth only a day or so ago. I hope they do well – they have some good players, Spurs play good football and Harry Redknapp is a great manager (and seems to be a top bloke).

Kerry Katona … oh dear

How can she still be “famous” and appear to live a life of luxury with a big house and nice cars!??!?!!? The other day she was on This Morning (you have probably heard about it – if not see the Youtube video below) where she appeared slurring her words. She claims it was because of medication. It was car-crash TV. Her agent/publicist Max Clifford has said himself that he would have cancelled the interview. He told the Mirror:

“I totally disagree (with the statement – this is the statement which blame interviewers Phillip Schofield and Fern Britton for the debacle). They were late going for the interview, had they got there earlier they would have had the chance to speak to people so the interview wouldn’t have happened.”

“It’s not Fern and Phil’s fault at all. Any journalist in that situation would naturally have asked ‘why are you slurring?’ I don’t think it’s fair to blame Fern and Phil at all. They have always been very, very kind to Kerry.

“All I can say, if I had been there, she wouldn’t have done the interview. I’ve been looking after Kerry for the past five years and she needs more protection. I knew nothing about this as it was arranged via MTV and Mark took her there. She shouldn’t have done it.”

She really needs someone in her “team” to sort her out and help get her act together. Just look at Britney, she looked like an accident waiting to happen but now seems to have got her act together (although Britney used to be good, Kerry Katona hasnt ever really).

There is a story out today which appears to claim that her slurring was down to her being drunk. This may not be true or not but she was filming the TV show Celebrity Juice the previous night and was sent downing shots.

Heres the video (click here for full video):

War hero lives in car

British war veteran, Corporal Marcus Kilpatrick, is sleeping rough in his car while a family live in a £1.2m house just yards away. A mother and her 7 children is receiving loads of benefits including £150,000 being paid to a private landlord for rent on the 7 bedroom house. While the family live in luxury (Ealing Council is picking up the £12,458 a month bill – which is nearly five times the rent for a similar property in the same road), Corporal Marcus Kilpatrick is homeless, living in his car and has been told no council house is available. He was in the Army for 12 years, including six months in Afghanistan’s Helmand and Kandahar.
