Van der Star
Sorry about that poor pun!! United played Everton today and won 1-0. I think that is now 12 clean sheets in a row – its something like 17 hours since United conceded a goal. When the clock passed 72 minutes, it also meant Van Der Sar had not conceded a goal for 1104 minutes which built the previous record and is an English league record.
Its a great record but it has owed plenty to the whole team especially the defence. I am sure many keepers would like to play in goal behind Vidic and Ferdinand!! Vidic has been United’s player of the season and is in with a shout for players of the season for the whole premier league. (Vidic has been banned for one game after his red card in the World Club Championship thing which means he missed the first leg of match against Inter – people were saying it could have been a 3 match ban so it could have been worse!!) As well as the defence playing well, the whole team has worked hard especially players like Tevez who is always chasing the ball and defending from the front.
It wasnt a vintage performance by United with the goal coming just before half time with a Ronaldo penalty. Carrick, who played brilliantly, was tripped by Arteta. It looked accidental but was certainly a penalty. There was another shout for a penalty when Lescott challenged Carrick (in the 2nd half). He didnt get anywhere near the ball so surprised it was not given – possibly the view for the ref was obstructed??
The Premier League looked like it was lining up to be one of the most exciting in awhile with all the “big-four” quite level and with Aston Villa threatening to enter the “big four”.
David Beckham, who is currently on loan at AC Milan, is showing signs that he may end up staying at Milan and not going back to LA Galaxy. He has played 4 games so far and has generally impressed especially in the last 2 games when he has scored a couple great goals. Against Bologna a few days ago he scored a
