Torres: City is not the team for Kaka

TorresIn an interview with the Daily Mail, Torres talked about Kaka and also United (in the title chase). In the interview he basically said that City are not really a “big” club and are not fighting for trophies in the league, nevermind Europe. He said infact they are struggling around the relegation zone. Out of all the Liverpool players hes properly the only one I dont mind. Heres is most of his interview where he talks about Kaka and the possibility of him joining City:

“Manchester City must first play UEFA Cup or Champions League football because I cannot see how any big player would want to play for them until then. Big players want to win trophies and Manchester City is not even in the race for trophies in England, let alone Europe. They are fighting to stay in the Premier League, or to get to the middle of the table.

“They have to build from there and then go against the biggest clubs and after that, maybe, a top player will join them. Chelsea were high in the League before they started to sign really big stars. Now everyone wants to play for Chelsea, but they did not when Roman Abramovich first arrived. They built a strong club and then it happened.”

Although Torres doesn’t subscribe to the somewhat ignorant and frankly absurd view that City are a club with ‘no history’, he cannot see what the Brazilian would gain from such a move at this moment in time.

“For now, I cannot imagine Kaka playing for Manchester City. It would be a fantastic contract, yes, but there are other things more important than money. A player wants to be remembered for what he has won, for the medals, for what he has given his club,” he continued, before highlighting what is clearly an important idea for Torres: that football is about glory, not about money.

“Imagine 10 years after you stop playing, you go back, you look around, you are not in any picture, you have no medals, no trophies; it is like you played for nothing,” he went on.

“You may have a fantastic car, a fantastic home, but what does it matter?”

And Torres confirmed that what he is seeking is the biggest club prize of them all: the European Champions League.

“The biggest ambition in my career is still to win the European Cup,” he said.

“I want to have a picture of that to look at later; I want to have that medal. You can have a contract that is better than your friends, but no player looks back and says: ‘I won more money’.”
