Twitter

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Twitter really seems to have taken off recently with it featuring in mainstream media. If you dont know Twitter is a micro-blogging service which allows you to let people know what you are up to in real time. Similar in a way to Facebook status.

A few weeks ago it hit the news when someone posted a message on Twitter that he was helping rescue people who were in the plane which crashed in the Hudson River in New York. The photo he posted on Twitpic I think was properly seen by millions. Here is an interview of him on the BBC news.

More recently Stephen Fry (@stephenfry) mentioned it while he was on the Jonathan Ross (@wossy) show. Stephen Fry already had a big following on Twitter but his number of followers (people who “follow” him so they can see what he has posted and what hes up to) has sky-rocketed. Phillip Schofield (@Schofe) has also been using Twitter and after posting a picture of himself in the snow and his hedge in the background it has really taken off. People are writing “Its my hedge” all over the place. A few people from Radio 1 have also joined mainly starting off from Chris Moyles (@chrisdjmoyles) after he spoke to Phillip Schofield about it all and “the hedge”. Most of the Chris Moyles team are now on Twitter along with other DJs such as Scott Mills (@scott_mills) and Greg James (@gregjames).

If you want to follow me, please add me – @andrewyee.

PS – By careful for fake Twitter profiles – there is at least one fake Chris Moyles and Scott Mills!!!

Wastes of money!

Friday, February 6th, 2009

It has been revealed that the UK has spent/wasted $6.6 billion on the ID card program but has not got a SINGLE card reader! The cards have all sorts of biometric information such as fingerprints and facial scans. Withouth the readers it means that they are just normal photo ID cards. Well done to the UK government!! Grrrr!!

Fat Cats

It has been revealed how much City fat cats have been paid in salary and in bonuses. For example the chief executive of RBS was on £1.3m a year in salary and a bonus of £2.6m. Thats despite the bank making a loss of £28billion!! Over 10 years he has got £30million with a £8million pension pot!! Ridiculous!!

Another example is HBOS head of corporate lending Peter Cummings who was earning £2.4MILLION including a £1.8MILLION bonus. He took early retirement this month.

However they are now plans to put a cap in these stupid and crazy bonuses!! :)

Beckham to stay at Milan ….?

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

David BeckhamThe latest with David Beckham and his future is currently been decided with his lawyers talking to LA Galaxy. Beckham has done brilliant for AC Milan and in 5 games has scored 2, set up a couple and played really well and helped them to 2nd in the league.

Beckham himself has said he wants to stay at Milan – maybe even beyond in the end of the season. I personally hope he stays there for at least till the end of next season. I reckon  he could go on for a good few seasons. Beckham said “Nothing against the MLS, but I’ve enjoyed myself so much at Milan, I’d like to stay for a while.”

We will see. If he goes back to America I think his England career will be over as will any proper decent football.

Google Maps integration … done

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

Been playing about with Google Maps this morning and integrating it into a web page for UK postcodes. I have previously done a demo web site which integrated with Google Maps. It was a “job out-sourcing” web site and the location of the job was automatically displayed on a Google Map. It worked most of the time but was abit hit and miss with UK Postcodes. You can have a look at it – the demo site is called Citrus | Jobsearch.

I now have got Google Maps integrated onto a web page and it works fine with UK postcodes. Woohoo!!
