Great Manchester Run 2010

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

I ran in the Great Manchester Run this year. 4th one in a row and this time I ran for NSPCC. So far I have raised £470 which I am very happy with. Thanks to all sponsors!!

I finished in a time of 57 minutes 28 seconds. Under an hour was the main aim but it was slower than last year. About 50 seconds slower than last year but more than 5 minutes slower than the 1st one in 2007 :(

My excuse this year are blisters!!

It was a busy day for me. As well as the run, I had 2 birthday meals to go to. The first was at lunch just after the run. Chinese buffet so filled up on much needed food :)

Great Manchester 150

After the meal I also checked out the Great Manchester 150. If you dont know, the Great Manchester 150 is a special running track on Deansgate in Manchester where top sprinters from around the world run. Usain Bolt ran last year and ran the fastest 150m time ever. This year the main stars were Jessica Ennis and Christine Ohuruogu.

I watched a few races. 110m Mens hurdle. 100m Womans hurdles. 200m womans. Those hurdles are high!!

I saw Jessica Ennis while she did some warm up runs. Her race wasnt for another 30 mins so decided to go home and watch on TV.

The longest race was the 200m mens hurdles. Its a long way to run and different to normal since its a straight track and they dont need to run round a bend. I was not the only one who thought is was far. One of the hurdlers (Andy Grayson) while warming up, said it someone by track – its “f*cking far”. (He did win though)

Thanks for sponsoring!

If you want to sponsor me its not too late – http://www.justgiving.com/Andrew-Yee

You can see some photos and vids from the Great Manchester Run/150 on my Posterous page. (Or if you know me its on Facebook).

Thanks!

Update: There are some videos of me on the Official Great Run web site :) Proof that I ran it! The videos can be viewed bt clicking here. See me struggle to get over the line!!

London

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Went to London last weekend to help my brother move home. He wasnt exactly moving far from one apartment near Canary Wharf to another near Canary Wharf about a mile away.

His new place is really nice. If he was on the other side of the building it would have been facing towards the Thames. The other way isnt quite as nice with a train track near ish but its still nice. When it gets dark it looks like a really nice night scene. Good view with the floor to ceiling windows.

While in London, went to a view different restaurants. One night tried to go to Jamie’s Italian in Canary Wharf. It doesnt take reservations and the wait was 1 hour 15 mins!! We ended up going to Royal China which was excellent! Really enjoyed the food. The next day we had dim sum at some posh restaurant called Yauatcha. Food was OK – nothing special and expensive. The toilets were very nice though!! LOL! The sink was like a garden water feature!

For the evening meal to save time we got some “take out” from Four Seasons in Chinatown. I have been here once before the last time I was in London. It specialises in Roast Duck. It was delicious!! Mmmmmmmm!!!!! Highly recommend going if you get a chance and eat the duck!

Patrice Evra – legend in the making

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Ever since Evra joined United he has become one of my favourite United players. Its not just what he does on the pitch and is one of the best left backs in the world but off the pitch stuff with his interviews (which are often funny) and what he has to say about United.

Bad start for Evra

When Evra joined United, his debut against City didnt go well. He played really badly and was subbed at half time. His 1st season at United was generally poor and it looked like a mistake by Fergie (along with Vidic who was that good but look at him now!)

Learning everything about United

Evra has said in a recent interview how early on in his United career he decided to learn as much as he could about United. He got a load of DVDs to watch about the Munich disaster, the Busby Babes and the whole story of the club. He said “You meet these people around the club and I wanted to know who they were. What they had done for the club. Out of respect. Because when you shake the hand of Sir Bobby Charlton you can feel the legend.”

“All the young players here need to understand the history of the club. After I watched those DVDs I realised I needed to respect the shirt. I needed to respect the story. Every time I play that is in my head. What a privilege it is to play for Manchester United. When you pull on the shirt you are pulling on history, and I say thanks to God that I play for this club. To be able to come in and train here. To work with legends like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes.”

In the interview he also talked about Tevez, Fergie’s hair dryer and more. Read here (on the Daily Mail web site).

Franck Ribery case exposes how rubbish The FA are

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Franck Ribery of Bayern Munich was sent off in the 1st leg of the semi-final of the Champions League and was given a one-match ban. The sending off was for a terrible tackle on Lopez which could have broke his leg.

UEFA have given Ribery an extra 2 match ban which will mean he will miss the Champions League final. Karma maybe for trying to get Rafael sent off?? Anyway, the tackle deserved more than a 1 match ban!

Normally, with rules set up by FIFA, if the referee has already dealt with the foul (he was sent off) then the football governing body (e.g.UEFA, The FA) can’t do anything.

In English football, there have been many situations were the other player has been injured badly (in one case a player got brain damage and also died) but the FA announced that nothing more can be done because FIFA do not allow further punishment if a referee has seen and acted on an incident.

Do UEFA not know the rules?? Or do The FA know “Sweet FA”.
