Sports Personality of the Year

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

Watched the Sports Personality of the Year. Watched it on delay (thanks to Sky plus) so skipped the cricket, bit of golf and horse racing so that was handy.

Legend

Very happy David Beckham won lifetime achievement award. Probably a few years too early though – think they should have waited till he retired. However, he is an absolute legend. A brilliant footballer and a top bloke. Great for him to mention Sir Alex Ferguson. Even better for him to mention and dedicate the award to all the troops in Afghanistan.

The main award was won by jockey Tony McCoy. I don’t know much about horse racing but his record is amazing. Phil “The Power” Taylor was in 2nd. The number of times hes won the world title (or whatever its called) is brilliant. I am happy for Jessica Ennis to come 3rd. Its been a great year for her, she comes across as a real nice down to earth girl and hopefully she can win in 2012.

Tony McCoy was massive favourite for the award and the result prove it – he won almost 42% of the votes!!

Going back to David Beckham – an emotion speech from him and from other people talking about him and what he has done etc. Becks was almost crying, Victoria was, (I was almost!! hehe). However, Cruz looked like he couldnt be bothered!! He really does look like a chav!!

One final thing to mention. Michael Johnson said something that I have thought before.  Today, we live in a time when there we get to see some true sporting greats – we are very lucky. He named Bolt, Messi, Williams sisters, Woods, Federer. Think that list should also include Schmacher (and I am sure others).

Beckham would love to go back to United

Friday, July 24th, 2009

In an interview in Zoo Magazine (online) became is asked “You’ve said you might come back to the Premier League. Would you go back to Manchester United if you had the chance?”

He said “I’d love to go back to United because they are the team I support. They’re the best club that I’ve played for, but I’m 34 years old now – I’m getting a little bit older. I was very successful there and made a lot of friends and for me they are the best fans in the world. As a supporter, I’m really happy they’re having a lot of success. Manchester United is always a team that any professional would want to play for.”

A United legend!

Read the full interview here – he talks about England, freekicks and his favourite game (which is the England v Greece game at Old Trafford in 2001 and scored the freekick to get us to World Cup – and the match I was at!)

Beckham to return to Milan??

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

At the weekend David Beckham played for LA Galaxy for the first time in awhile (since being on loan with AC Milan). It was in a friendly which was actually against AC Milan.

The main headlines from the game was when Becks (properly un-wisely) confronted the crowd who had be taunting him all game. Several fans had big banners all about Becks being a “part time player” and not showing commitment etc.

In the actual game, Becks was involved in both goals with one long range pass and also a corner.

Maybe this is a turning point for Becks?? AC Milan have said they are eager for Becks to repeat his loan spell.

“The most likely hypothesis is that Beckham plays for us from January until the end of the season,” said Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani.

Beckham to stay at Milan ….?

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

David BeckhamThe latest with David Beckham and his future is currently been decided with his lawyers talking to LA Galaxy. Beckham has done brilliant for AC Milan and in 5 games has scored 2, set up a couple and played really well and helped them to 2nd in the league.

Beckham himself has said he wants to stay at Milan – maybe even beyond in the end of the season. I personally hope he stays there for at least till the end of next season. I reckon  he could go on for a good few seasons. Beckham said “Nothing against the MLS, but I’ve enjoyed myself so much at Milan, I’d like to stay for a while.”

We will see. If he goes back to America I think his England career will be over as will any proper decent football.

Becks to stay in Milan???

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

David BeckhamDavid Beckham, who is currently on loan at AC Milan, is showing signs that he may end up staying at Milan and not going back to LA Galaxy. He has played 4 games so far and has generally impressed especially in the last 2 games when he has scored a couple great goals. Against Bologna a few days ago he scored a really nice goal from a tight angle. Yesterday, he scored a trademark freekick against Geneo. He was subbed at 70 minutes but was given a standing ovation. England manager Capello was in the crowd and its rumoured that Becks will play for England next month again Spain.

You can see Beckhams latest goal, the freekick, on The Sun web site.

Personally I hope he stays at Milan. He was ruining his career playing in the MLS. He is showing what a great player he is and its helping playing alongside some brilliant players like Kaka, Ronaldinho and Pirlo. By playing for Milan I think he is good and fit enough to keep going for awhile. Beckham hasnt said directly but he has said “Playing here is every player’s dream, but deciding what to do is not easy.” “It’s something that will take time. I am under contract with the Galaxy and I have plenty of respect for them.” “However, the possibility of playing for Milan is special. I knew I would have fun, but I didn’t know I would be enjoying it this much.”

He also said: “Everyone has worked hard to help me and I have been welcomed very well. Sometimes it takes weeks or months to settle and I am a little surprised.

“I find it similar to Manchester United. There is the tradition that only big clubs have.

“At Milan, like United, you breathe a special atmosphere wherever you go, on the pitch, in training, in the stadium.

“And then Milan have that trophy room, and this makes you feel special.”

Still at Milan David!!
