Chelsea out!! LOL

TevezIts Carling Cup games this week and there have been some interesting results. Last night Arsenal won 3-0 playing with lots of “kids” in the team. The kids of Arsenal really do seem very impressive. United didnt have it quite as easy winning only 1-0 with a Tevez penalty. I havent seen the highlights or even goals (thats on later on tonight) but it sounds like United had lots of chances like he have been recently but just not taking chances.

Tonights games involved the other 2 teams in the “big 4″. Liverpool played Spurs and Harry Redknapp has done it and Spurs won 4-2. At one point Spurs were 3-0 up at half time. Chelsea have been knocked out of the competition also losing on penalties to Burnley. Chelsea took the lead but Burnley equalised and it went to extra time and then penalties. Chelsea were first to miss with Bridge having his penalty saved. Burnley missed when it was 4-3 (it would have been the winning penalty).  Chelsea made it 4-4 on penalties and then Burnley scored the next. It was then up to the ever lovable Mikel who had his penalty missed!!! LOL. Couldnt happen to a nicer person. If you are a regular reader of my blog you will know I am not a big fan of Mikel. Final score in penalties was 5-4 to Burnley.

After watching the highlights I will possibly have more to say…

Liverpool – title contenders??

AlonsoThe big game of the weekend was Chelsea v Liverpool. The best result would have been a draw (as a United fan). This was even more important after United drew 1-1 against Everton. In the end Liverpool won 1-0 and ended Chelsea’s unbeaten home record of 86 games. I suppose I rather Liverpool win, out of the two since I basically dislike Chelsea more – the main reasons are Terry, Ashley Cole and Mikel. Liverpool played really well and have had their best start of a season for a long long time. The only goal in the game came from a deflected shot from Alonso. Chelsea had a few chances, the best chance was for Ashley Cole – which he funnily sliced wide :)

In the United v Everton game I mentioned above – I have seen the highlights but from what I have read and the little I have seen – United played well in the 1st half but Everton well much better in the 2nd. Rooney was subbed in the 2nd half after getting a bit hot under the collar and Fergie said afterwards it was just incase he got himself sent off.

Its still early on in the season but United are now 8 points behind Liverpool (5 behind Chelsea) with a game in hand. Next game for United is West Ham midweek and then the in-form Hull next weekend.

The other game worth mentioning is the Spurs v Bolton game which was the first game in charge for Harry Redknapp who moved from Portsmouth only a day or so ago. I hope they do well – they have some good players, Spurs play good football and Harry Redknapp is a great manager (and seems to be a top bloke).

Footballs back!!

Keane and BabelFinally after all the international games the Premier League is back and one of the biggest games of the season – Liverpool v United. The game finished 2-1 to Liverpool and to be honest they deserved it. United played very poor particularly in the 2nd half. United scored early on after good work from Berbatov and a good finish by Tevez. Liverpool’s equaliser was after Van Der Sar pushed the ball clear right into Brown. Liverpool’s winner was after a good run by Mascherano (when Giggs should have kicked the ball out) and Babel finished.

There were 2 debutants in the game. Berbatov for United who started Ok but then was very quiet. Reira for Liverpool gave them something they have not for a while – someone who can run down the wings with pace. He did really well with some excellent touches. Looks like a good buy.

As well as the result, Carrick was injured. An ankle injury and after going off he was seen on bench with crunches – not a good sign!! Also Vidic was sent off near the end after 2 yellow cards. To be honest should have been off after first when he tackled Keane and was properly just about the last defender. However the 2nd yellow card was for a high “almost” elbowed challenge on Alonso.

United are worryingly poor without Ronaldo. We need him back soon – he just gives United that extra something. Hopefully when Berbatov plays more with United he can get fully match fit. The midfield today without him was rubbish – Scholes may was showing his age and Anderson maybe still tired from the Olympics.

in the other games Arsenal beat Blackburn 4-0. A hat-trick by Adebayor and some good play by Walcott. Newcastles problems continue after losing 2-1 to Hull. Its just a mess at St James Park!! To make it worse they had a man sent off after Guthrie took a wide hack at a player.

In the other big game City played Chelsea. Robinho made his debut. The game ended 3-1 to Chelsea and they played well. Robinho scored City’s goal – it was just written on the script for him to score!!! Terry was sent off with a straight yellow card. As much as I dislike Terry I think it was abit harsh. It was a foul and yellow card but the City player was far from the goal still when he was tackled (almost rugby challenged!!) and at least one Chelsea player was covering. Chelsea will properly appeal.

Hopefully Ronaldo comes back soon because United need to start getting there act together and he may be the catalyst for it. Arsenal and Chelsea are playing very well so far this season and maybe now Liverpool will go on a good run after a good performance against United.
