Bolt destroys field

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has won the 100 metre final in the Olympics. He also beat the world record with a time of 9.69 seconds. What made it more amazing was that he “stopped” running with about 10 metres to go by “slowing” down, looking around, show-boating and starting the celebrate. He was about 2 metres in front of everyone else. He finished 2 tenths of a second in front of 2nd place – a huge amount in 100 metres.

I recommend watching the final. Also worth watching is Michael Johnson’s reaction to Bolt winning and the way he won it.

The Olympics

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

The Olympics started in Beijing just over a week ago and so far its been pretty good. Team GB are doing OK winning some unexpected medals and breaking records along the way.

The main talk of the Olympics has been Micheal Phelps. Hes going for a record 8 gold medals in one Olympic games. He has so far won 7 and I think its a record 11 gold medals in total making him the “greatest” Olympian ever. In some races he seems just miles ahead of the other contestants and smashing world records

One of the things which has come up in the last few days is the “fake Olympics”. First it was about the girl who sang in the opening ceremony and that she mimed. Most people could tell she was miming but it turns out that she was not miming to her own voice. The voice of the girl was apparently not “flawless”.

The musical director was talking on Beijing Radio station and said the organisers needed a girl with both a good image and a good voice. “After several tests, we decided to put Lin Miaoke on the live picture, while using Yang Peiyi’s voice,” “The reason for this is that we must put our country’s interest first,” “The girl appearing on the picture must be flawless in terms of her facial expression and the great feeling she can give to people.”

It also turned out that the fireworks seen in the opening ceremony sequence were fake with some added in using computers and some were not “live”.

Anyway….. the athletics has now started so lets hope for more medals. Come on Team GB (and also China and Hong Kong!!!)
