United drop appeal

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Evra and FergieUnited have dropped the appeal of the 4 game ban for Patrice Evra for what happened after a Chelsea match a while back. The FA (Football Association) show once again they are just rubbish. I may be biased but the banning for 4 games (and a £15,000 fine) is ridiculous. Some players get shorter bans for terrible “tackles” or throwing things into the crowd.

Evra has categorically denied hitting anyone but it looks like The FA have decided to make some sort of example of Evra and United. The ban starts on 22nd December so Evra will miss the league game against Stoke and Middlesbrough, the FA Cup tie against Southampton and the Carling Cup semi-final first leg against Derby. On paper these are not big games but he is an important player for United and without him we miss his attacking forward runs down the left side. (He will be back and available to play Chelsea on 11th January).

Terry gets away with it again …. The FA = A Joke

TerryJohn Terry has had his red card he received at the weekend rescinded after an appeal to the FA. The referee, Mark Halsey, gave Terry a red card for “serious foul play” and NOT a “professional foul”. Chelsea were complaining about the fact that Terry should not have got a red card because he was not the last defender. However, the position of other placement was irrelevent because the red card was for “serious foul play”.

Under FA regulations, a “serious foul play” can’t be downgraded from red to yellow on appeal and a red card can only be rescinded if the referee, upon reviewing the incident, admits that he made an error. However, the ref rightly stood by his decision.

This means Terry has got away with cynically bringing down a player without even a yellow card!! OK, it wasnt really a “rugby tackle” like some people are saying but he certainly used his arm to try and grab part of the City player.

It now also means Terry will be able to play Chelsea’s next game – against United!!!

As you would expect Sir Alex Ferguson is not too happy!

So long … good riddance!!

The chief executive of the FA, Brian Barwick, is to leave his job at the end of the year. Barwich was the man who hired Steve McLaren. That turned out really successful didnt it!! He of course also hired Capello – lets hope this eventually works out.

However, this is typical The FA. They are really hopefully! Great timing!!! This is all before the very important World Cup qualifiers!! Once again off the field activities could disrupt whats happening on the pitch!!

I suppose every cloud has a silver lining. Lets hope the FA get in Sir Trevor Brooking as chief executive.
