United lose :(

Only a few games left in the Premier League and there were more twists and turns this weekend. United played Arsenal and lost 1-0. It now means that if Chelsea beat United this coming weekend, they will be level on points. I was at a wedding during the match so couldn’t watch but was getting score updates. Whenever I go to a wedding this year, United lose!!! Two weeks ago I was at a wedding when United played City in the FA Cup final. On both occasions as well, we apparently played rubbish and didn’t deserve win anyway.

I have since read reports and seen highlights of the match v Arsenal and we were lucky with Vidic and the handball. If ref had spotted it, it would have been a penalty and Vidic probably would have been sent off and then would have missed the game against Chelsea. At the end, Owen was tripped and should have had a penalty but considering the Vidic incident we can’t really complain. United just lost the game in midfield and it was 2 v 3. Rooney was dropping into midfield but it was more of a 4-4-1-1 rather than a 4-5-1. I think Fergie decided to play with 2 forwards since Chicharito and Rooney had played so well recently. However, it just didn’t happen and Arsenal bossed the midfield even without Fabragas. I am happy for Ramsey to score after his horrible injury last year (or the year before??).

It is still in United’s hands and if we win the rest of our games we have won the league. At the moment, the goal difference is exactly the same. It could all be decided on the last day of the season! Its so close!! COME ON UNITED!

Chelsea v Spurs

On Saturday, Spurs lost to Chelsea 2-1. It was a very fortunate win for Chelsea with the ball not crossing the line for one goal (although it was a huge mess up by Gomes – again!) and another which was offside – after a few mishits and deflections!!

That loss for Spurs pretty much ends there chance of getting that vital 4th spot. It unfortunately does mean that City are likely to get 4th! :(

After the United Arsenal result, that win for Chelsea gives them 2 or 3 points than they should have. Those points could be vital at the end with things so tight.

Saying that, Chelsea were favourites to beat Spurs and in my predictions I thought we would lose to Arsenal (and I think it will be a draw v Chelsea) – we have only won 5 times away from home so a game against an Arsenal team with nothing really to lose was always going to be tough.

Ronaldo

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Hes not official been sold yet and is still official a United player but the deal is all but done. Ronaldo will be leaving United for Real Madrid for £80m. Its a huge amount of money – although I have read it may be paid in instalments. More crazy is the amount hes being paid. He will be on a 6 year contract with pay increasing 25% each year. Apparently he will earn something like £530k a WEEK!!! Crazy!!!

He was an amazing player and will miss his skill. Its now a question of who United buy to replace him. You really need 2 players to replace him with a winger and a striker. It looks like United will get Valencia from Wigan but hes of course no way compared to Ronaldo as a winger. Also, it looks more and more like Tevez will leave so we could need 2 strikers?? We be interesting to see what happens and if we actually do manage to buy anyone! Benzema is a good option but he apparently doesnt want to leave Lyon and even if he does would prefer Spain. David Villa would be great but seems unlikely. Argually 4 of the best players in the world, now play in Spain: Ronaldo, Kaka, Iniesta, Messi.

Anyway,…… I am sure Fergie knows what hes doing!!………

(I hope Barcelona win the Spanish league and cup next season!)

United 3, Chelsea 0 :)

Vidic and GiggsUnited played Chelsea at the weekend at Old Trafford and won 3-0. The scoreline could have been bigger as Chelsea were really poor and United were good. Not brilliant and Ronaldo still not back to his usual self but he still managed to get the ball in the goal twice (although they were disallowed wrongly). It was also good that both our strikers Rooney and Berbetov scoring.

United scored right before half time from a corner taken by Giggs, flicked on by Berbatov and then headed in by Vidic (who had a brilliant game). United actually had the ball in the net moments before after a clever corner kick. Rooney rolled the ball out of the corner quadrant and then Giggs casually walked to the ball and crossed a great ball in for Ronaldo to head in. Unfortunately the ref/linesman disallowed it. Its not quite clear why whether Rooney didnt tell linesman what he was doing (did he have to?) and maybe when Rooney rolled the ball it was considered more than 1 “kick”. Heres the corner:

Dermot Gallagher, the former Premier League referee, had said the goal should have stood, describing the corner routine as “creative and innovative.”

Like I said Chelsea were really poor with many of their big players not showing up. Drogba had 2 chances and one went out for a throw in and another was an air shot! Deco was taken off at half time, Mikel was once again crap (the best bit of business United did was not buying his a few seasons ago and getting £12m!), even Lampard was rubbish. Chelsea actually had no shots on target.

United played really well. It was great to have Evra back. As well as being a great defender, he gives us a real attacking threat down the left. (Unfortunately he got injured shortly after crossing for Rooney’s goal :( ). Park once again worked his socks off, Vidic was brilliant. The Man of the match was Giggs who rolled back the years. He started in central midfield alongside Fletcher. It was a bit of a surprise especially with Carrick playing well recently. One thing I have to say about the United players was that Rooney was lucky not to be sent off for his constant swearing at the ref. As a United fan I am glad he wasnt sent off of course but in one way I wish the ref, at the very least, had a word with him to stop swearing.

United’s 2nd goal was a cross from Evra after a nice backheel by Ronaldo and Rooney scored from close range. United’s 3rd goal was from a freekick by Ronaldo which Berbatov taps in from a few yards. It was a great freekick whipped in by Ronaldo. Ronaldo actually had the ball in the net twice – once from the corner I mentioned and another when he was one on one with keeper and scored. It was given as offside but it was perfectly fine.

Rafa Benitez should have a rant at Fergie every week!! Liverpool have once of their worst performances and then United have the best! :)
